Staying At School

The year 6 camp was on, but I didn’t go. Ane and Faaao didn’t go too, and for our reliever teacher we had Mr Somerville. Can you guess what we did while the year 6 campers were gone?.

Well....... we had 3 tasks we had to get finished. 1, we had to do our X-tra Maths everyday, 2 we had to have 100 minutes of Maths Whizz done, and 3 an animation about anything. If we didn’t finish all of these things you will have to go to Mr Somerville’s class and get everything completely finished. No matter how long it takes. Thats why I tried my hardest to finish everything.

I managed to get all of these tasks done. Animating part of the song I’m Yours by Jason Mraz, was really fun. 2 of my friends (Faaao and Ane) animated the same part of the song I’m Yours, but obviously we had to make different animations. Since I got all 3 tasks finished I got to have FREE TIME! Well..... I think everyone likes to have free time. We even got to go swimming, but I didn’t participate in it.

From what I’m hearing it sounded like camp was really good. Even though I had a good week, I will definately be going to camp next year.

I'm Yours Animation

This is my animation that I have been working on for the past week. I am animating the song "I'm Yours", which is sang by Jason Mraz.

Camp Benzon

Tomorrow most of room 17 is heading off to Kawau Island for the team 4 camp. But I am not going, too bad.

Camp Bentzon is on Kawau Island. You have to travel by a bus to get to Sandspit, then from Sandspit you go on a ferry and then head to Kawau Island.

There are a lot of activities at Kawau Island like Abseiling, Kayaking, Confidence course, Swimming, and raft making. There are a lot more of activities. But the Confidence Course sounds quite interesting.

If I was coming to camp I would be most interested in trying the Burma Trial. It sounds pretty interesting, and involves trusting the other person that is guiding you with the rope. Also I would like to try something a little bit different.

I know if I come to camp my big challenge would be staying away from home. Because there is no place like home.

I can’t wait until tomorrow because mostly everyone’s going to camp, and I think its going to be a lot quiet without mainly everybody here.

Couplet Poetry's

SUMMER
Summer is hot
But sometimes not
It gets quite hot
So then I find a really good spot
Its no way near cold
“want to come to the pools”, I get told

CAMPCamp is quite fun
I want to wake up and see the sun
I would rather walk
And also talk
I really don’t want to run
I just want to have fun

Fun Kids Triathlon

Can you try figure out what room 17 did down at the bottom field? If you guessed Triathlon you are correct. It was very exciting to see avanti bikes, and everything set up.

We had to do three obstacles. The first obstacle we did was sliding on the water slide 5 times, but some people and I didn’t bring our togs, so we had to run to the cone and back. We didn’t know when we had to go and get our bikes, so we kept on running until we saw someone run to transition ( transition is the place where the bikes are, and is also where we change over).

Obviously the second one we had to do was biking. We also didn’t forget our helmets“CLICK” my helmet was on my head. I raced off out of transition until I got out of there. “2 LAPS” I heard, so I pedaled as fast as I could, and it didn’t take me long to hop off my bike and start running.

“AH” running, now that was the most tiring part of all but luckily it was only one short lap. I felt exhausted and so badly wanted to stop but, I kept going. Relieved is what I felt when I crossed that finish line. It was like coming back from a very long walk. But most of all I was proud of myself for trying the “Kids Triathlon”.If you ever get to run a Triathlon or you get the offer you should because, I know one thing for sure it is really good for you. At the end every person that competed in the Triathlon got a certificate, I thought that was really kind. Brett, Mark, and Adrian was good helpers.

The Dangerous Bush Walk Back Home

Happily talking about our day, Cheyanne and I walked through the bush to get home. We lived quite close to each other, so to get to our house we had to climb over the fence. But in the bushes we heard something really suspicious. Hearing the sound made us think that something was about to happen.

As Cheyanne looked back she could see someone wearing all black, it looked like the person had a weapon in his hand, “AHHH” Cheyanne screamed with fear. “RUN” I turned and there that person was chasing after us. Running as fast as we could we tried to jump the fence, I managed but Cheyanne still couldn’t jump over. The hoody fell off the persons head and we discovered that it was a man.

He pulled Cheyanne down until she couldn’t hang on to the fence anymore. “GET AWAY FROM HER” I screamed at him like I was a hero. As the man dragged Cheyanne on the stoney path Cheyanne kicked him in the face with her hurtful boots, his face started bleeding with blood dripping down on the path. “GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME” Cheyanne yelled with fear. I dashed to try to help Cheyanne but the man hit me hard enough for me to fall on the ground.

“HELP” somebody help us Cheyanne said out loud, all the neighbours came running out, a lot of the neighbours called the police. With all the others trying to help Cheyanne and me, they managed to get the man on the ground waiting for the police to come.

It didn’t take long until the police came, then me, and Cheyanne were taken to the doctors to see if anything was wrong with us. Luckily the man didn’t hit me a little bit harder, Cheyanne only got bruises and cuts from the stoney path.

A Name That Tells A Story

So far the Weka's have been reading a story called "A Name That Tells A Story". Our teacher has told us to retell the story in our own words, and post it on our blog's with pictures, and our paragraphs.

There is 3 boys named Koha, Maaki, and Te Whanaupani. Their Mum kept on telling them stop going by the river, they would answer back “ok”, then their Mum went away to a Marae. They had to stay with their father, one day it started pouring down with rain, so then one of the brothers said “lets go have a look at the river”, so they went off. Maaki, and Koha started kicking Te Whanaupani, and then pushed him into the river. He was swimming for his life, and tried to get to land but the current was too strong, one of the brothers raced homed to tell his father, and he ran out to the front then dived in, and grabbed him.

One of the Brothers went to get their Mum, and she took him to the doctors straight away. The doctors said “He’s lucky to be alive”. The next morning Te Whanaupani’s Mum’s friend’s had a baby in her arm, and gave the baby to her. “I will replace the child you have lost”, “Te Whanaupani didn’t die” she said, then Te Whanaupani’s Mum’s friend hugged her. “We will name the baby Takawhiti Te Oraiti Tawhiwhirangi Waipuke Oranoa in the memory of what happened to Te Whanaupani”.

Made Up Story At The Point England Shops

Power walking past the truck, I hurried to the shop so I could buy my lunch for school. Being late is what I don’t like so I knew I had to hurry. It didn’t take that long for me to buy my lunch, but then something happened.

“HEY YOU”! I heard someone yell. “YOU DIDN’T PAY”, “YES” I explained. Walking down to the crossing the shopkeeper was accusing me of stealing from his shop.

I tried to tell him that I’ve already paid, but he just kept on saying no. Repeating myself over and over again made me start yelling at him. It was a waste of time me walking really fast to the shop because, I heard the second bell ring.

Variety Of Sentence Beggings About A White-Tailed Spider

Having 2 palps at the front of its head, the White-Tailed Spider uses them for grooming itself. White-Tailed Spiders can bite if they are trapped in clothing, or squashed by a shoe. “ARGH!” I would scream if I saw this hairy monster.

Docking Day

In Room 17 the Weka's have been reading Docking Day. We had to chose 2 of the similes that were on the Docking Day Document, and draw an illustration of the picture that it gives us in our mind. I chose 'its doors gaping like jaws’, 'like Christmas decorations tipped over the hill’. Here is my 2 drawn pictures, and 3 sentences about why was this docking better than ever? Exciting things happened, at this years docking for the kids. This was because a van rolled down the hill. In the van there were chocolate bars, spewing out of the van, and covered the hill like Christmas Decorations.

Wonderful Olympic Day

Thursday was a totally different day, compared to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It’s because our whole school had to get put into a country. We called this Olympic day, we had to rotate through different events, and play against different countries.

Argentina was the country I was in. Toreka was our team leader, and Miss King was also representing our team. I was nervous, and my legs were shaking. But it eventually went away.

There were 8 sports which were Ultimate Frisbee, Touch, Handball, Foursquare, Sitting Down Volley, Basketball, 3 legged soccer, and Rounders. My 1st favourite sport was Sitting Down Volley. 2nd was Foursquare. And 3rd was Basketball.

Our last event was Rounders, with Miss Garden. That was pretty fun too, but not as fun as Sitting down Volley. After that it was the end of our wonderful day (except the nervous part). I was glad, but at the same time I didn’t want to go home.

Oh No Day (Made Up Story)

One hot summers day my family, and I went for a stroll to the Point England beach. We couldn’t resist having a swim, so we jumped in. My Mum, and Dad was sitting on the grass chatting away, and didn’t take any notice while we were having a swim.

My 2 sisters, and I climbed onto the rock, and was just about to jump off. Then suddenly we noticed that my little Brother wasn’t making a sandcastle anymore. “Wheres Tj” said my sister.

We all panicked, then I ran to get my Mum, and Dad. They hurried down to the water, trying to see if he was there. “TJ!!!!!!” yelled Dad. But we heard no reply.

We didn’t give up looking for him, so we decided to somehow get a boat. We eventually got one, and looked around the Point England Beach area. Driving past another boat I turned, and saw my brother with my cousins. My cousins said “luckily we saw him”. We were so happy, and grateful.

Farewell Mrs Verry

When I heard something about Mrs Verry leaving, I was shocked. Mrs Verry is a really helpful lady. She is kind, generous, good, and like I said "helpful".

Today I am writing a farewell post to her, so I can show that she is always welcome here. I wish she could stay and help. What I like about Mrs Verry is that, she is always there when you need here. THANK YOU MRS VERRY FOR BEING SUCH A KIND TEACHER, AND GOOD LUCK!

Duffy Assembly

Can you guess who Point England school had at their assembly? I’ll give you a clue, she is a famous Television Star. Well, if you guessed Jo Holly you are right.

It took her quite a while to find Point England school, but she eventually got here. 5 times she had to go around the Panmure roundabout, which gave me a shock. But while she was trying to find our school, we sang 6 songs.

She then told us about her life, and how she became a TV star. I found out that she was brought up in Gisborne, and her favourite movie she has been on is Squirt. Her first taste of presenting was when she was at the age of 11. In 2005 she got the job of being a TV presenter.

Anyway at the assembly we had two more guests come, and their names were Ron, and Auston. These special people were from the Bucklands Beach Lions Club, and they helped give out the boxes of books. Taamai went up to grab room 17’s box.

Jo Holley really inspired me to be whatever I want to be. Before I had absolutely NO! idea what an Auto Q was. But now I do. When I grow up I want to work at the S.P.C.A.

Making Boxes

In Room 17, we made boxes using paper. Here are the steps to making boxes.

1: Grab a A4 paper.

2. Fold the paper from the bottom, to the top.

3. Grab one of the sides, then fold it so it meets the other side.

4. Keeping the paper on the table, fold both the long edges into the middle crease, then unfolded them.

5. After that fold the corners, so that they almost come into the middle.

6. There would be a long little piece, fold those so that they cover the corners.

7. Put one of you fingers inside, and gently pull it open.

8. Straighten up the edges, so that the box actually looks like one.

9. (Final touch). You can decorate your box with coloured paper, and make shapes to glue on your box.

Netbook Weekends

Do you take your netbook home? Well, I do. I am pretty lucky I can, because my sister can’t bring her’s home.

At home I wished I could reach the internet signal. This is because I like going on with my learning. Since I can’t get the internet I play Math War, Tux Typing, Tux Math’s, Tux Paint, and Quadrapassel. It gets boring after a while, so I shut down my netbook, and go do something else.

Playing on my netbook is kind of fun. I like to take photo’s from when we had a great time, like Birthdays, Christmas, New Years, and all that stuff. Sometimes I let my sisters have a turn, and they really love to draw on Tux Paint. Except for my little sister, she absolutely loves to play Tux Typing.

Taking movies of my friends, and sister’s singing is what I do when I’m over my friends house. It’s pretty funny because, when my sister and Tauwhare are arguing. Tauwhare gets mixed up with the names, so instead of saying It was Chelsea. She would say it was chauwhare. I was cracking up laughing I couldn’t really stop.

I can’t wait until this week’s weekends comes. I am going to have a lot of fun.

Illustrator Tommy Kapai

On Friday we had a very talented, and special illustrator called Tommy Kapai come to our school. What I've learnt from Tommy Kapai is that if you make 10 people smile, your life will be a whole lot better. Did you know that everyone has a gift? Well, yes everyone has a gift. I want to know what my gift is, but I can’t figure it out.
Listening to Tommy Kapai reading one of his books made me feel really good because I like his books, they look really interesting to read. Almost at the end of the book he wanted to view a picture on the laptop, and he kept on saying go back, go forward, go back, go forward. It was quite funny!

Now that I’ve heard of Tommy Kapai, I will definitely be looking out for his books. Tommy Kapai is a really inspiration for those people that think they have a gift for writing.

Shot Put

My writing is for people who have never participated in Shot put before. The purpose of my writing is to teach people, and give them instructions for how to do this sport.

Shot Put is followed by many Kiwis, because Valerie Adams represented New Zealand at the 2012 Olympic games, in London. A lot of people thought she was going to win a gold medal. But Nadzeya Ostapchuk put the shot further and got a score of 21.36 meters. Fortunately for Valerie her rival tested positive for steroids, and Valerie got her gold in the end.
If you haven't participated in Shot Put before, well you're about to learn. Here are some of the rules:

Standing in the circle is where you start.
When the shot has landed you are allowed to exit
If you walk out at the wrong place or time, you are disqualified.

There are two putting styles involved in Shot Put. One of them is the Glide, and the other is the Spin. A very common technique is the glide, and is not really used by beginners, (people that have just started learning Shot Put).

Keeping the shot below your shoulders is what you have to do. Getting a good throw is what you will want, so pushing the small metal ball at about forty degrees makes the ball go fast, and far, not too high, and not too low.

Good luck for when you start participating in Shot Put.

The mark I got is 12/18.

Starship Hospital

In the weekend my friend Tauwhare and I went to Starship Hospital to see my sister. I already knew what bus to catch because, I always go to the Hospital with my mum. But what I didn’t know was where to get off, but luckily my mum reminded me.

Anyway Tauwhare and I started walking to Glen Innes. I ran to the bus timetable and the time was 10.05, but the 625 bus was due at 11.05. To lose some time we went to Mcdonalds and brought 2 Mcmuffin combos.

Finally the bus came, it was $5.20 for both Tauwhare and me. There were heaps of seats free, but when we started getting halfway to the Hospital the bus was full of people. While we were on the bus we just kept, and kept, and kept on chatting.

Walking in the Hospital made Tauwhare feel very excited, I told her to stop it but she was so excited. Chelsea wanted to go every where, she wanted to go get something to eat, she wanted to go for walks, and she wanted to go to the Teen Lounge. But that’s good.

Staying there for 6 hours was so tiring, so me and Tauwhare said goodbye to Chelsea and walked to the bus stop. My feet was so sore, and Tauwhare felt like vomiting. We caught the 756 bus home.

Stress Busters

Medley Swimming Relay

There are 4 people in each team. This is because there are four different swimming strokes which are Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle. The competitors have to have these swimming styles in order otherwise they are disqualified. 100 m is the length each person has to swim.

I think the aim of this event is to try hard and do the best you can. To win you’ll have to listen to  your teammates and work with them. You also have to be fast, have strength and also have stamina.

A swim cap and a swim suit (Speedos or Jons), is what Medley Relay swimmers wear. Swim caps keeps your hair out of the way, and also reduces drag. This interesting event is done in a 50m pool, and the competitors are separated by the lanes.

Medley Relay swimmers have to be strong, and fit. Exercise is a very important thing to do. These kind of people at this level is likely to be in the pool 6 days a week, and about 6 hours a day. They will also be having a balanced diet, to keep up with their swimming.

I think that this event is interesting because, I would like to see the four different strokes done by a famous Medley Relay swimmer.

Chariot Racing

Chariot Racing is very dangerous, a lot of people died from competing in this event. The aim of Chariot Racing is to knock people over. To win the race you have to cross the finishing line without crashing. Alcibiades is a famous Chariot racer.

Why Does A Bee Sting

Rarely bees sting if they are provoked. As a rule they sting only if they are driven away, or threatened. The stinger is a weapon that nature has given them, they use it for self defence.

The bee's stinger is really a fine sharp barbed tube, that a drop of poison can be injected. It is the Worker bees that sting.

We often hear a bee can sting once then it dies. What generally happens is that we knock the bee away, tearing the sting from its body. It injures the bee so badly it ends up dieing.

A bee can sting as often as we allow it, only if we don’t pull the stinger away from the bees body.

Ancient Olympics

Do you know that boys in Greece learnt to wrestle? This was because in Greece they were always trying to win wars and take over countries. Greece was very powerful, until the romans came and took over them.

The place where the boys learnt to wrestle was school! Yes that’s right school. It did cost for parents to send their kids there, that’s why mostly rich people sent their kids to wrestling school.

Olympic Symbols

At the opening of the games the torch is brought to the stadium by the last relay runner. They leave it in the stadium throughout the entire length of the game, as they leave it continues to burn. When it’s the final day  of the Olympics the torch is extinguished.

The Olympic Symbols

This image is courtesy of olympic.org

The 5 coloured rings blue, black, red, yellow and green represents everyone in different countries. They are interlocking because when the Olympics starts all the Athletes comes together and competes. Baron Pierre De Coubertin is the person who designed the Olympic symbol, with the 5 rings.

When the games start the Olympic flag is brought to the stadium, and then it is hoisted up the flagpole. The 5 Rings appear on a white background.
The flag will come down when it’s the Closing Ceremony.
